About 95% of IT leaders in India expect generative AI to soon have a big role in their organisations, according to a new report published on Friday (25th August 2023)..

The report published  by Salesforce, a cloud-based software company that polled  IT leaders from 28 different countries including 300 CIO/CTOs from India also said that 87% of tech leaders acknowledge a well-defined role for AI within their organisations.

The report talks about some important things happening in IT organisations. One is that they're changing how they create applications. Another is that there's a growing difference between how many IT services are needed and how many are available. Also, automation and artificial intelligence are having a big impact.

However, the shift will come with a hint of caution, as 82% of them have concerns about the ethical aspects of generative AI, the study said.

In addition, 74% of Indian IT leaders are struggling to keep up with increasing business demands, and this challenge is expected to grow with a projected 91% demand increase over the next 18 months. To cope, 95% of these leaders are now focusing more on making their operations run more efficiently.

Only 40% of Indian IT groups can handle all the app development requests they get. To fix this, a significant 83% of these groups are using tools that don't require much coding, and 53% are trying out new ways to put together different pieces of software.
The report also tells us that 76% of Indian IT leaders are finding it tough to manage both business goals and security needs. So, they're trying out lots of different ways to stay safe. For instance, 63% of Indian IT teams are using special codes to keep their data safe, and 59% are using extra verification steps to make sure only the right people can access their systems.

“Delivering innovation, turning data into action, and rising to meet increasing security threats, the business has never asked more of technology and its leaders. Driving business value is critical and return on investments and speed are IT’s top success measures.
We are excited to be a part of this journey working with several IT leaders, as trusted digital advisors to their businesses.” said, Deepak Pargaonkar, VP - of Solution Engineering, Salesforce India.

Similarly, a recent report by McKinsey from August 1st highlights the rapid growth of generative AI tools. Within a year of their introduction, one-third of those surveyed are using these tools in business functions.

AI has shifted from being a tech employee concern to a focus for company leaders and nearly one-quarter of C-suite executives and over one-quarter of AI-using companies have gen AI on their agendas.
Furthermore, 40% of Indian IT leaders intend to boost their AI investments due to advancements in generative AI. However, managing risks linked to generative AI is still in the early stages. Less than half of the respondents are addressing the primary risk of inaccuracies, as indicated by the report.
